Common mistakes

Auto setup: Email applications, such as Outlook, provide the ability to automatically setup your email. This works fine with big email providers, such as gmail, but usually gets the settings wrong otherwise. To overcome this issue, select the option to to enter the settings manually. Sometimes it is even necessary for the automatic settings to fail several times before the email application will allow you to enter the settings manually.

Incoming mail server address incorrect: The incoming mail server should be set to is set to a-server.co.uk and not mail.a-server.co.uk.

Outgoing mail server address incorrect: The outgoing mail server should be set to is set to a-server.co.uk and not smtp.a-server.co.uk.

Outgoing mail server requires authentification: Mail can only be sent from a valid email box. Therefore all outgoing email must be authentificated using the same login settings as the incoming mail server. This prevents the email boxes being used maliciously by third parties to send SPAM.
